Queer/sex movies

I watched “Call Me By Your Name” last night and it destroyed me. Also recently saw “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” and liked that too.
Both of these are dramas with realistic endings and i think i prefer those movies to rom coms because i can relate to them more.
Anyone have recs on movies?
Mine are those two and an anime called “Belladonna of Sadness” I watched in my porn class in college. Yes, Images of Eroticism was the name of the class and we literally watched porn and talked and wrote essays about it. I miss college.
Currently watching “Feel Good” on Netflix.

I’m gonna look into your recommendations. I’ve wanted to watch Belladonna of Sadness but haven’t gotten around to watching it. I tried to think of any movies to recommend and I just can’t remember any. However, if you’re ever looking for a touching and queer graphic novel, check out On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden!

Blue is the warmest colour is pretty similar to the first two movies you like  I’d also recommend Rafiki, roughly based on the short story Jambula Tree by Monica Arac de Nyeko. Some of my other favs are Water Lilies, Heartstone, Murmur of Youth, and Balcony (short film). You should check out Kanopy, it’s like Netflix but only has award winning & educational films/ documentaries. They have a great selection of LGBTQ2 movies!!
@plumpuddin On a Sunbeam is the cutest book ever

Apparently I can access Kanopy with my library card, I can’t beleive I had no idea! I just signed up and have been browsing though all the LGBT+ titles. There are so many!! Looks like I have a lot of movie watching to do.

Your public libraries are still open?! That’s unreal… Or maybe it’s just because I live in a major metropolitan city.

I’m in Chicago and our libraries aren’t open, but a lot of them are still allowing ebook rentals and doing a lot of community events on social media.

So glad someone suggested Blue is the Warmest Color!

Sex Education I really like! It has a few really sweet queer relationships.

Also really like comedian Josh Thomas’s work, both of his shows are on Hulu and have a lot of gay relationships and in the newer show, Everything’s Gonna Be Ok, also a really sweet lesbian relationship between two autistic teens. His other show, Please Like Me, can be a bit heavy but still really enjoyed it.

Oh, Special on Netflix! It’s a short series with only 1 season, but more are coming! The lead character is gay and has MS, and it’s a fictionalized series on his life trying to become more independent and dating.

Oh, also Gentified on Netflix, really lovely series about gentrification in LA and the Latino community, one of the main characters is a lesbian and her longterm relationship storyline is done really well on the show.

And of course Pose if you haven’t seen it. A truly incredible series.

Er, sorry, realized these are all tv, guess I watch more series than movies, but still great stuff!

I second the Josh Thomas rec!! I put Please Like Me on in the background when I’m cooking, doing laundry, falling asleep, it’s pure genius.

Oh no, they’re all physically closed! I’m in Vegas. They just offer digital services that are still available!

Please Like Me is fantastic! A really beautiful and heavy and funny take on the complexity of relationships and gender/sexuality

Just so you are aware. Blue is the Warmest Color has some large controversy behind the scenes. One of the actresses was 17 when the movie was filmed. There are also accusations that the director forced them to be far more explicit in their scenes then they were comfortable with, and beyond what they had agreed to. Multiple actors from previous films have accused the director of the same behavior.
